How it all began.

Getting Started

In January ‘09 I received an email from some one inviting me to a Secret Millionaire Stock Traders Event, considering I received the e-mail from a complete stranger I was already slightly suspicious that it wasn’t going to be that secret. For a long time I’ve been looking to find out more about investing and thought that this would be a good starting point. At the bottom of the page it mentioned Traders University, they seemed like a decent enough organization with a large reputation and I thought what the hell. So in late January myself and Sinead (my good wife) turned up to a 4 hour evening event in Belfast.

Now to clear things up, at this stage i know absolutely nothing about trading. The nearest I’ve got to the FTSE was playing it under the table at a restaurant.  I’ve got an idea what a share is but know just about nothing else. During the next 4 hours I got a decent enough grounding in financial spread betting, the differences between that and share trading, the basics on risk management, and some good pointers all round. I knew at the start that the course would be just an appetiser, giving me just enough information for them to be able to sell me their larger course at £2995 +vat (£3444.25). Now they did offer a discount rate at the end of the event which i would have snapped up if I had the money. But I couldn’t because I didn’t. The reason that I would have went for it is that both myself and my wife felt that i have a natural aptitude for it.  Everything I learned fit well into how I view life but the only thing stopping me was our lack of funds. So we went home quite excited about what our trading future would hold. Currently we both work from home running a few websites which pay us enough to get by but not enough to be where we want to be. The trading fits in with our personal need for freedom as we can currently work anywhere with an internet connection.

When at home i started my research and stumbled across this post is traders university worth it? After reading it I decided that as i couldn’t afford it then i may as well start out on my own, and when i collect the £3000 use that as a starting account. I got a copy of The Financial Spread Betting Handbook and a host of other books and so began my journey. Although this may not be something a lot of people would be comfortable with, I’ve spent the last 4 years with my nose in books or blogs learning how to build our current web businesses. I’ve found over those years that I have a talent for book learning or more importantly being able to find what i need to know from many sources and put it all together. The question is can I do it here.

For the answer stay posted.
